|for ST. PATRICK'S DAY...|
It's a Great Day for Green Bushies,
It's a great day to go play!
The sidewalks of Austin are thick with blarney,
You'd think the Guv's house was ol' Killarney!
It's a great day for the elephant,
For the donkey in array!
We're feeling so inspirish,
Because everyone's Irish,
It's a Great, Great, DAY!
It seems that a House committee voted to have a particular Catholic priest as House chaplain, but "all hell had broken loose" when the selection was announced. House Speaker Dennis O'Hastert then decided to award the position to a runner-up Protestant minister instead, and he was backed, said O'Safire, by "Protestent GOP members, egged on by irate evangelicals." Naturally, the forty Catholic House Republicans were in disagreement.
Wouldn't this had been a great time for Mr. O'Bush to step in and assert those leadership qualities that he so often brags are his? "George W. Bush should show some leadership by calling the speaker on St. Patrick's Day to urge him to name a priest," suggested Mr. O'Safire.
Don't hold your breath, says I. Just because Mr. O'Bush likes to talk about his leadership qualities in the abstract doesn't mean he has any for a good cause like this. Isn't Dubya bloody well grand? He's a fine piece of work, he is. --Paddy O'Furniture, 3/17/04
